The occasion
The Prism is Jamba’s community event series, which held its second gathering – this time at the Aurora . The aim of Prizma is to create a link between different minority social groups. February’s event focused on Jewish culture, celebrating the New Year of the Tree in the Marom Budapest together with the Marom Budapest. The event was fully accessible: the Aurora was wheelchair accessible and a sign language interpreter was available throughout the programme to help the hearing impaired understand the event.
The programme
The programme was colourful: first, Jamba held a quiz, where teams could guess, for example, which world record is held by Israel, or what ‘abracadabra’, a Hebrew word, means. The teams were made up of Jambaks and members of the Jewish community – people were curious about each other and put their skills together. After the quiz, we attended a Shabbat reception, a celebration of the coming of rest after a busy work week – celebrated by Jews with singing and prayer. Then, to further enrich the evening’s activities, we took part in a fruit tastingon the occasion of the Festival of Trees – or New Year – led by a foreign rabbi, who told us many fascinating details about this Jewish holiday.
The community
Overall, it was very exciting to learn about a small slice of Judaism and to see that a culture that is thousands of years old can be so accessible, approachable and inclusive. It was good to see that many of the Jambas stayed to talk and connect, and several of our partners and volunteers came. An event like this can also be a good opportunity for prospective employees and employers to meet each other, and for those who have already found a job to give great advice to those who are still looking for one. So we encourage everyone to join us at the next Prizma in April to experience the supportive power of belonging to a community.

A szakadó eső ellenére sokan eljöttünk, elegen ahhoz, hogy izgalmasan teljen a délután. A program első részeként egy kocsmakvízen vettünk részt, amelyben a zsidó kultúrával kapcsolatos kérdésekre válaszoltunk, ezek a popkultúrától a gasztronómián át, a vallásig bezárólag számos témát felöleltek, így azok számára sem voltak egyértelműek a válaszok, akik egyébként jól ismerik a zsidó vallást és kultúrát. Sokszínű társaság jött össze, de a világ legtermészetesebb módján fogadta mindenki a többnyelvűséget, a fogyatékossággal élő résztvevőket, a gyermekeket és négylábú társainkat, a segítőkutyákat.
A kvíz eredményhirdetése után rövid szünet következett, majd elkezdődött az ún. szombatfogadás nevű szertartás, ahol közösen énekeltünk, imádkoztunk. Vallástól függetlenül jó alkalom volt ez az elcsendesedésre, visszavonulásra, a befelé figyelésre. A szertartáson közösen tanult dalokat énekeltünk, így senki nem érezte magát kizárva, ugyanakkor bárki szabadon jöhetett-mehetett, ha valamiért szüksége volt egy kis térre.
Ezt követte a Fák újévéhez kapcsolódó Tubisváti gyümölcsvacsora az izraeli Yerach B. Meiersdorf rabbi vezetésével. Ez egyszerre volt egy szertartás és egy beszélgetés, amelynek során négy kis pohár bort és négy fajta gyümölcsöt fogyasztottunk el. Yerach rabbi előadásmódja végig izgalmas és humoros maradt, számos érdekességet is megosztott velünk, többek közt a zsidó misztikusok gondolatairól, nézeteiről. Olyan rendezvény volt ez, ahol magától, bármiféle erőlködés nélkül valósulhatott meg az inklúzió.
